Here’s the problem......General Aviation pilots fly the least and train the least. Other than a Flight Review every couple of years and an occasional Instrument Proficiency Check, most of us don’t practice regularly. The results are dismal. From 2002 through 2005, according to IFR Magazine, about 500,000 GA pilots killed about 2100 people including their own families.
Those precious and expensive skills that you worked so hard to learn are quick to erode. Without regular practice, most of us feel unprepared to tackle real world IMC. As a result, many instrument rated pilots either quit flying IFR or continue flying in the weather while hoping nothing happens that overloads their diminishing skills and knowledge. The problem is aggravated by a lack of time in most pilots’ schedules. Also, it can be difficult finding an instructor who understands your specific needs. Some of you have upgraded avionics or aircraft and need tailored training to learn to get the maximum utility out of the new equipment. So, what can you do?
Announcing the PMAS Answer: We can help you achieve the currency you desire with our exclusive Constant Proficiency Program.
Sign up today for a regular recurrent training program with PMAS. We will work out a regularly scheduled training session that fits your needs. Usually this will be once a month on the date and time that makes sense to you, the first Saturday of the month, or the second Wednesday at 5:00 pm for example. We will plan a three-hour session that covers all of the essential skills required. Over the next months, we will fly a series of real world scenarios based on your aircraft and avionics. You and your instructor will fly the Elite Simulator as well as your aircraft, if you own one. The simulator allows us to pause and discuss the critical information necessary for real learning. This is not simply a session of endless IFR approaches. Instead, you will experience the same challenges that all instrument pilots face in actual flying. There are many benefits to this approach. You receive better training and achieve a constant level of currency. No more flight reviews or IPCs, because they are accomplished as a part of the regular training. Lower cost is another benefit. By using the simulator for a portion of the training you save money. Also, since you are constantly training, your costs are predicable and manageable. But the bottom line is safety. You will be a smarter, safer, more confident pilot. Now, you can also receive credit for the FAA Pilot Proficiency Program through your training with PMAS. Our program is integrated with the FAA requirements. (FAASafety.gov)
